I have been told by many elders that shamans and oracles are made by the old ones early on in their lives. They are made in two ways. Either the selected child has a near death experience or they are forced through an extreme traumatic experience to awaken. I had both.
At the age of four, I was traveling with my father to visit my grandparents in Sunray, TX for Easter. I was standing next to him with my arm across his shoulders watching him drive. Back then seat belt laws were simply a suggestion. It was so early in the morning I still had my little yellow night gown on. I decided that I wanted to lay down and finish sleeping, so my dad reached to put my clothes down on the floor board of his 1976 Centennial Chevy Truck. He turned the wheel when he bent down and it caused the truck to severely swerve. When he over corrected, the truck began flipping from front end to back five times.
My head flew through the windshield breaking a perfect whole the size of my four-year-old head. Then I came back through that same whole my head had just made. When the truck came to a resting position on all four tires. My dad was out of it because he had hit his head on the steering wheel and I was standing on the bucket seat full of glass. My dad opened the door and stumbled out then he lifted me out of the truck.
I remember standing there without shoes on more worried about getting stickers on my feet. Clearly stickers hurt worse than glass when you are four. My dad told me to stay there and he was going to try and thumb someone down to help us. I watched as my dad staggered to the side of the road and started trying to get people to pull over and help. I followed my dad’s model and walked to the other side of the grassy median and started trying to wave people down to help. I stood there in my little yellow night gown waving at cars as they sped by. I remember thinking why will no one stop and help. Then about that time an older couple stopped on my side of the road and a younger couple stopped on my dad’s side of the road.
Here is where the woo’woo comes in. The older couple were the parents of the younger couple and they had gotten separated on their journey. The younger couple had turned around to go back and find their parents. I have always thought the kindness of that whole family was present that day through those four people. I have spent many years thanking these unnamed strangers of my memory for stopping to help us. Now to add to the woo. The semi-trucker who stopped to call in our accident was the nephew to the older man and they had not seen each other for years. Clearly the universe put this family in the right place at the right time. It was my first lesson in how the universe truly operates through a web of relationships.
Finally, a wrecker showed up to transport my dad’s pick up back into Amarillo and he kindly dropped us off at the emergency room. This was a time when ambulances were only called if you were dying. I remember going through a series of x-rays on my head, back and legs. The only serious mark left by the accident was a piece of glass embedded at the base of my skull and spine. The doctor said that he was afraid to do surgery to remove it because it might leave me paralyzed and based on its placement there was a great chance that it might works itself out. He went onto tell my parents that I had absolutely no evidence of a head injury and that he believed it was a miracle considering the large bruise patterned like broken glass on my forehead and face. I had no glass cuts or scrapes and no sticker scratches.
What the doctor didn’t know was that the hit on the windshield popped my mediumship center wide open. It fine-tuned my clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance radio dial to predict every death and birth in my family from that point forward. It gave me a window into the between world of spirits where they would communicate information from the otherside. I knew that I was different and I respected that and still do.
As a sensitive child I picked things like art and music to cope with the continual flow of between energy moving through my life. My empathic skills pointed me in the direction of healing arts. I later graduated from college with a degree in Music Therapy. The power of music to speak to the soul offered me multiple opportunities to meet extraordinary people. From Native American medicine keepers, story tellers and healers to celebrities who would play at the bedside of my patients. It even offered me the opportunity to do a five year immersion study with a Curandera. I traded music therapy knowledge and she gave knowledge of spiritual healing through cleanses, plants, and prayers. I took every one of those opportunities to learn a new healing method or technique. I have since retired from the field of music therapy but, I continue to use the skills learned in my shamanic practice.
I am currently working through the certified medium and healer courses offered by the Morris Pratt Institute. I hope to one day open a center of Spiritualism where people can come and learn and experience the Spirit World. I would also like to have a clinic for alternative healing so that people can receive the spiritual healing that they need.
Today I live with my incredibly talented husband and trail blazing daughter. We share our life with two dogs and a cat on a small rural farm in Oklahoma. I have taken all that I have learned over the years and blended the skills into my own methods of spiritual practice and shamanic healing. For 20 years I have taught and hosted retreats across the United States. I have also opened this website to reach you and amazing people just like you.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. Now I would like to get to know you. Please take a minute and share your story with me.
